the original, with a well-constructed bassline incorporates a warm up melody that begins to set the tone for the night ahead. each layer is distinct as the track begins to build itself right to its crescendo when each of those individual layers collectively come together. you can distinctly hear the 80 s like synths that are cleverly inserted into the track which are highlighted by the female vocal samples. the grittier elements add a touch of darkness and instantly transport you to a warehouse club with an intimate atmosphere. the remix, done by the widely loved tech-house duo pleasurekraft jack up the tempo a notch, and add a bouncy groove to the track. where the original brought out a darker side, the remix is more upbeat and settles in well for a peak hour set. bringing that crisp bassline to the fore, and tuning out the melodies to make them a tad subtler it showcases a more tech-house version of the original. there s an added element a slightly more haunted vibe which is coupled together with those gritty and harder elements. all i can conclude is what a tech-house bomb this is from the highly talented pleasurekraft. they always manage to bring something new and unique to every single track they ve ever remixed which truly shows their remarkability as consistently good producers.

wolf invite two old friends back for the fourth release in their white label series. ron basejam steps up first with a beautiful piece of soul sampling, low slung house. all topped off by crazy p vocalist, danielle moore. on the flip the more upbeat peaktime jam from chicago damn sounds like a 90 s new york house track with rolling beats, vocal samples and disco loops.

the man behind the end of level boss label, cyclonix, delivers 2 club tracks just the way we like them. already tried and tested in the clubs by our man cottam, who fell in love with the tracks on first listen. they demand to be played in the early hours of the morning in dark basements from nottingham to leyland and beyond. label boss cottam takes over the b side with a leisurely walk back from the supermarket taking the scenic route for no apparent reason.

thomass jackson is a new entry in the gomma crew. and he fits perfect: his style? outsider house - or lets call it: sex house! this shit is soo damn funky and spartanic at the same time - you want to go straight to make babies! thomass is part of the new vibrant mexico city electronic scene.

it s only so long before liam geddes becomes a name you ll start hearing on the worldwide underground stage. having already churned out a number of uncompromisingly deep house tracks over the past couple of years, he comes armed with another exceptional ep on mil - the third release on the new music is love sister label - that further demonstrates his genuine dynamism as a producer. the with closed eyes ep should win this very talented producer the recognition his fresh beat work deserves into the wild gets proceedings underway, a ripping bassline paves out over rattling percussion shakes while oscillating dream like jingles play out during the course of the track. chopped vocal samples are introduced and tease against the shuffling drums which elevates the track with real drive and groove. close ya eyes for the journey packs the same layer of heat with its similarly groove-heavy bassline - a staple of geddes well-crafted sound. firmly footed, intermittent chimes seep into the track and are complemented by siren-like chords which grow truer in presence, until a hypnotic vocal snippet fulfils the deep terrains of the track. a saint is a tumultuous techno-fused roller with it s rip-roaring bassline and percussive loops which rhythmically swing out over shuddering pads, sustained chords and a cut up female vocal, brining a twist of colour to the arrangements of the track. there s a keen sense of tension and release, elevating this above your average and confirms geddes does depth and darkness with real conviction. broke will surely prove a high point for any decent dj set, and sounds like a cut you d expect from someone like delano smith. strings faintly play out over looped key chimes and a funk-like riff, while ticking hi-hats and a careful use of vocal sample gives the track extra heat, each element powered by the rumbling bassline.

archeo recordings is a reissue record label that regenerates old, lost, obscure (and forgotten) rare gems of italian music of the 70s and 80s, and not only. all outputs are licensed by the artists and the vintage labels, audio tracks are remastered in their original form the sleeves and center labels are graphically recreated for today but all based on the original images. archeo would like to make the music available to a wider audience of collectors, djs, music lovers of a forgotten time.

space is the place! after his travel in the universe, rvds is back on earth with his first result of out-of-space travelling: the space ep, starts with three rhythm tracks, a tribute to the roland machines 808, 606, 727. besides the 1st track is an electro hymn like the ones of e.r.p., the 2nd and 3rd tracks are the finest rhythm tools which force you to dance on the moon. the last track is a great ambient piece, familiar to rvds work with lawrence and chrisitan naujoks on their project sky walking. another special is the artwork, cause each sleeve comes with a unique handmade drawing by rvds himself. art and sound in space!

over the course of his twenty-plus-year-long career, luke solomon has made one hell of a name for himself: he has released dozens of singles and eps on labels like crosstown rebels, rekids, cajual, and playhouse, to name a few, founded his own imprint, classic, with longtime friend and co-conspirator, derrick carter, dropped four albums, and had a hand in well over 100 remixes. as one might expect, it is a tremendous honor to now welcome the veteran dj and producer to lph, where we think he fits in perfectly, despite being the artist in our ranks with the most impressive tenure.

next up on !organism is a bravely entitled ep from german producer chris colburn complete with remixes from petter b. colburn, who runs his own label rohmaterial, has been making heavy techno since 2005 on labels like 8 sided dice, decoy records and driving forces and this summer is to head out on tour across europe. this new ep shows he is an innovative talent with plenty to say for himself.

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.

from the tropics comes whiskey disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. it is loosely connected to sleazy mcqueen and his assorted cohorts.

kenny dope and louie vegas nu-yorican soul project was responsible for some of the biggest underground club hits to come out of nyc throughout the 1990s, their collective vast musical knowledge, impeccable taste and legendary status as djs in the city only helped elevate them to the highest level.
the nervous track is a fine example of the duos deep musical heritage, originally released on nervous records in 1993 its deep pads, bassline and solid as a rock breakbeats captured the ears and minds of any self respecting dj or dancer who came within a hundred miles of it, the very definition of a classic! fusing the worlds of jazz, latin, hiphop and house maw set the blueprint for generations of djs and producers to come with records like this.
here, re-mastered and re-issued from the original dats in conjunction with nervous records nyc is a piece of dance music history, the nervous track is available again and still sounding as vital and groundbreaking as it did on its original release.

scubas phenix triptych reveals its final panel. a bite-size story in and of itself, and a fitting end-part to the greater sum, 3 feels like the latest acme of a diverse career. this is traditional beginning-middle-end story-telling: silence s call-and-response foretells of a blue funk ahead - funk in the figurative - as nineteen eighty transposes old chicago into an ad rem context. the disquiet continues on the other side, with plateaus exacting techno pulse underscoring astral synth work. tempo and temperature are pushed to an extent worthy of the resolution fade provides with its informal pace, acoustic disposition and celestial chimes

taking the well-formed and increasingly respected catch recordings to its third release is the broken labour ep from bob barker, complete with remixes from berlins ryan davis and greenville massive. with a background in contemporary art and design bob barker looks to create dance floor sounds that transcend the listener like a viewer in a gallery.

violet poison is the dark, enigmatic and esoteric side-project of francesco baudazzi, already known as obtane, co-owner with giorgio gigli of the defunct techno label zooloft. the new project is focused on analogue proto-techno with influences from 70s italian progressive bands like goblin or ost composers like fabio frizzi and earlier downwards records from 1994-1995.

one of las smartest young voices says the la times…which the artist suspects, may just be a covert way of saying la is dumb. “open” mike eagle wouldnt terribly mind, being born and raised in chicago where the painful winters and his uppity grandparents kept him inside as a youth. he spent his formative years watching alternative music happen on mtv and hoping to one day be able to audition for the native tongues. as a young adult after graduating with a degree in psychology, he did the next best thing and moved to los angeles, joining the project blowed collective where he made music and toured with busdriver, aceyalone, abstract, nocando, and more. he has also gained notoriety in the world of comedy by being invited by professional funny people (paul f. tompkins, hannibal buress, matt besser/ucb) to rap at their shows. he would like to be raps kurt vonnegut but recognizes that he would first have to create something as iconic as the four-stroke illustration of an anus. he practices by releasing rap albums that delight, entertain, and confuse.

the black key team step up once again, this time with the third in their limited, vinyl-only series, with freerotation resident and established producer, tom ellis, delivering 4 sublime tracks of subtle and hypnotic house music, in the form of the simply titled -limited volume 3-. now undoubtedly an established and respected label, brighton (uk) based black key records are approaching their third year in the business, having released records from the likes of blm, iron curtis, pawas, flori and ugly drums, all of which have gained attention for all the right reasons. here, tom ellis delivers an excellent and intelligent ep, with all 4 tracks displaying the talent this man posses for creating a unique and instantly likeable take on deep house music... the right kind. there is no question that this limited release will appeal to the real heads among us - quality stuff. this ep is yet another statement from the black key camp, proving their worth in true style.

deo & z-man, the blood-brothers from hamburg, pulled off one of the most creative feats of last year with their debut album, no bullshit , with zero bs but plenty of inspiration, the pair melted together a range of influences with a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek humour for their underground opus. the remix lp to follow this ep solidifies their commitment to the eclectic, drafting in friends and family like lee burton, erobique and tigerskin to rework the magic.

tamed monsters ep is an inaugural release of the new record label pandora. new imprint will focus on ambient sounds, music for home-listening and unique artwork. the va includes works from german producer benedikt frey, russian producers shine grooves, unbroken dub, and an ambient group kurvenschreiber. each artist offers a different sound, which lets the music evolve like a story and makes a nice combination of dreamy ambience and mesmerizing repetitive beats.
